The Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be auspicious for the Hindu communities. It is also known as Akha Teej. This festival falls in the month of Vaishakha during Shukla Paksha Tritiya. Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be more auspicious when it falls on Wednesday with Rohini Nakshatra. This year Akshaya Tritiya will be celebrated on 2nd May, 2014. According to the Hindu Traditions Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be significant day for performing Punya Karya. It is also believed that on this day Sage Vyasa began composition of Mahabharata.
On Akshaya Tritiya people worship the incarnations of Lord Vishnu and also perform the Lakshmi Puja in order to get peace and wealth in life. On this day people also purchase gold or make investments in gold as this can bring wealth and prosperity in the near future. The work Akshaya itself means never diminishing hence all the things done on this day never diminish and remain with the devotees forever. The success and fortune is also brought into the life of devotees who worship the God with pure soul and heart. According to Hindu mythology, treat Yuga began on this day. The Akshaya Tritiya does not require any specific Muharat as this day is considered to be free from all the malefic effects.
The day of Akshaya Tritiya is very beneficial as on this day people start new ventures like business, construction etc so that the prosperity and betterment is achieved. This day is also considered to be the day of wisdom. Anything started on this day will always bring good fortune and it will increase in a good amount. Charity is also considered to be auspicious on this day, as donating something will give in return a large amount. There are some specific things that are being given in charity like feeding to poor people, cow and calf, hand fans, umbrellas, gold, land and water. People also do the wedding on this day as it is believed that marriages on this day will make the couples to understand each other feelings and will cover a long journey together. Children born on this day or in the month when Akshaya Tritiya falls are considered to be very lucky and are bright in the studies. This festival is also related to the story of Lord Krishna and his friend Sudama. This festival is celebrated only by the Hindus and the Jains and therefore there is no public holiday on this day.
